I respectfully disagree on the key point (understanding the intent to be appealing) and many might not like what I'm going to say but it's the truth. The founding of America has way more to do with “ethnos” than only “ethos”; it certainly had (& has) a founding ethnic identity—European people, with their heritage & culture, founded & built America. The Naturalization Act of 1790 reinforced this founding identity. For a foundational cultural example, “Rule of Law” didn't spring out of nowhere or, rather, spring from everywhere; Rule of Law is the heritage of European people.
