I think Pascal is doing far too much analytical thinking - "over thinking life." I put together a book composed of 163 breath & movement practices discovered in my 6,000+ massage sessions & hundreds of yoga classes. As I see it, all of our misery is due to "not being present," and that we can RETURN TO THE PRESENT (opposite of going Back to the Future) by simply practicing Aware or Conscious Breathing. Also, the exhale part of our respiration activates the parasympathetic nervous system connected to the Relaxation Response, and the inhale (triggered when we 'take a deep breath') stimulates the sympathetic nervous system - which prompts the Fight or Flight response or stress. Very interesting post about the life and beliefs of Pascal. As a Unitarian Universalist Buddhist Christian, I'm skeptical about his conclusion that faith in Jesus is the only answer.
