The Soul of Civility In One Lesson
A free, printable poster reminder that civility is the foundation of flourishing communities.
Gracious reader,
I was recently contacted with surprising news: The Soul of Civility is being used as a bipartisan book club selection in one of our nation’s most divided state legislatures. An honor, to be sure.
Before we ended our conversation, the person who reached out made a wry observation: “Legislators today don’t really read. Could you distill your book into one page?” He added, almost conspiratorially, that legislators especially love hanging posters on their office doors as public declarations of their private beliefs.
Now, my book is nearly 400 pages long—decidedly not a poster. The thought of reducing it to a single sheet made me laugh at first. But then I thought: why not try?
And so I did.
The result is my very own “pocket-sized” Soul of Civility. Since it’s too good to keep only for legislators’ doors, I wanted to share this little gift with you.
This simple but meaningful guide offers the essential principles of civility in a clear, practical form. It can serve as a classroom handout to spark thoughtful discussion, a gentle reminder in the break room to encourage kindness in daily interactions, or an introduction to The Soul of Civility for your book club or community group.
My hope is that it serves not only as a reminder but also as an invitation—to bring the principles of civility into the places where we live, learn, and work together. Here are just a few ideas for how you might use the guide:
Keep a copy in your office
On the refrigerator at home as a daily family reminder
In a classroom, as a prompt for respectful dialogue among students
On your bathroom vanity—an everyday reminder as you begin or end your day
In a library, tucked inside the cover of The Soul of Civility for readers to discover
At a community gathering or town hall meeting
As part of a welcome packet for new employees, students, or volunteers
In a book club, as a conversation starter
On a neighborhood bulletin board or coffee shop community wall
Place it somewhere you’ll see it each day—then send me a photo of where you choose to place it. You’ll be entered to win an extra copy of The Soul of Civility to share with a friend you’d love to read it with. Email your photos to: ahudsonassist@gmail.com
I hope this resource is both an encouragement and a practical companion to you.
Warmly,
Lexi

Wonderful one pager to your book I read awhile back. Do you think some who see this may wonder did she mean politeness instead of politness?
