Celebrating One Year of The Soul of Civility - A Special Giveaway!
Reflecting on One Year of The Soul of Civility
Gracious Reader,
I hope this finds you well! Today marks the one-year anniversary of The Soul of Civility: Timeless Principles to Heal Society and Ourselves—published by St. Martin's Press on October 10, 2023. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we've been on together.
To commemorate this special occasion, I would love to offer a giveaway of 5 copies of the book. Stay tuned to find out how to win your copy!
Here are some exciting highlights from the past year:
🌍 The Soul of Civility delves into the rich intellectual history of civility and social norms, providing a framework for how we can flourish together across deep differences. As we navigate a divisive election cycle and rising extremism, this question has never been more urgent!
⭐ Endorsements from luminaries like Mitch Daniels, George Will, Francis Fukuyama, Jonathan Haidt, and Tyler Cowen have poured in, with Justice Kennedy even sharing his admiration for the cover!
📚 The book has garnered glowing reviews, with The Wall Street Journal praising it as “Intelligent... edifying... emboldening,” and The Los Angeles Review of Books calling it “unexpectedly compelling... deeply informed.”
✈️ My global reader-led tour has taken me to nearly fifty cities and five countries! It's been a joy to connect with countless readers eager for discussions on civility—all while balancing the adventure with my two little ones, Percival James (4) and Sophia Margaux (2)!
🇨🇦 In December, I had the honor of speaking at the Canadian Parliament about the pressing threats of extremism and polarization to democracy. This past April, I addressed the UK House of Lords during my book tour and engaged in inspiring conversations at special events in Paris.
🏛️ Civic leaders around the world are reaching out with the question, “How can we embody the ideas of your book in our city?” Earlier this year, the Carmel, Indiana community hosted an engaging event around the book, which was highlighted in Axios: Axios Coverage.
🎙️ I've had the pleasure of joining various podcasts for thought-provoking conversations with figures like Simon Sinek, Preet Bharara, Ryan Holiday, Jonah Goldberg, and more—each dialogue deepening our exploration of civility.
🕊️ One particularly memorable moment was speaking at the Alabama Supreme Court in Montgomery, just steps from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s church on Dexter Ave, where I passionately discussed the vital role of civil disobedience in supporting democracy.

A Heartfelt Thank You:
I would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for helping spread the message of civility. Whether by sharing the book with a friend, engaging in thoughtful discussions, or embodying these principles in your own lives, your efforts have helped amplify this mission in profound ways. Together, we are nurturing a much-needed revival of respectful dialogue and human connection in a world that often feels increasingly divided. Your support and enthusiasm are the backbone of this movement.
