You did not in fact post about Melissa Hortman's murder -- why not? She and her husband were killed along with another MN legislator. An attempt was made on a third, all from the same party. This was calculated, politically motivated violence.

No grieving for Hortman, though.

Rachel Hurley has quite a bit to say about Ezra Klein's nonsense about Kirk.

Exactly, I am against all kinds of violence and I can't also support double standard. I can't accept why this situation gets so much media coverage, but the children murdered, th other politics assassination were not treated the same way.

Thank you so much for posting this! It's a brilliant rejoinder to the complete knee-taking by so many intelligent people.

Lot of people here mistake civility for conformity to their own moral preening. As Bob Dylan once said 'Sometimes satan comes as a man of peace.'

You really, really need to at least read the comments on Klein's piece. Millions of us are appalled at the elevation of this hate-monger to some kind of martyred victim. You aren't understanding the true import of such weak words as yours. Just lay down for the right and spare us the preaching of tolerance.

Lexi, thank you for your courageous leadership in this dark time, and for amplifying the voices of some others across the political spectrum who are speaking out strongly against Kirk's assassination. As Utah's Governor Cox said, the attack on Charlie Kirk was an attack on us all. I have been saying the same on my platform too, and I hail from the political left.

It's been interesting to see my liberal friends' response to the assassination. There is often a "This is reprehensible, but..." (But Kirk's language was violent, but you reap what you sow, but there hasn't been enough outcry about gun violence or Melissa Hortman's assassination, etc.) Many people seem so determinedly loyal to their tribe that they cannot simply condemn Kirk's murder; they have to find a way to pivot to a critique of him or of the right. It is, of course, the same on the right when there is an assassination of left-wing figures. Tribalism runs deep. (David French wrote an excellent NYT column this week about partisan blindness.)

But civility and democracy are so important that they transcend our left-right politics, and leaders like you, Spencer Cox, Bernie Sanders, and many others are exactly right in recognizing the gravity of this event, denouncing it without reservation, and working hard to cool the temperature. Thank you.

Some might call wailing over Kirk without context weakness. You aren't able to hear that though.
