An invitation: Faith, politics and civility virtual summit tomorrow!
Plus, a giveaway of "The Everyday Patriot" by Tom Morris, author of If Aristotle Ran General Motors
Gracious reader,
I’d like to invite you to a virtual summit I’m planning and which is occurring tomorrow, January 11th, from 11-3pm.
The topic is faith, civility and politics. See some of the great speakers we have lined up below:
Join me as my friend Ericka, author of Reason to Return: Why Women Need the Church and the Church Needs Women, and I engage with people who are among the most thoughtful on these topics today.
We’ll explore questions such as:
What is the role of people’s personal faith and convictions in the public realm?
Why have politics become so vicious?
Is it possible to be a person of faith and moral conviction in public life today?
I loved talking with David French of The New York Times about the need to have tough skin, but a tender heart in order to be a Christian in public life. It’s easy to let the magic all around us take its toll. How can we stay personally and spiritually refreshed and motivated to do this thing called co-existing together across deep difference?
I enjoyed speaking with Cherie Harder of The Trinity Forum about why politics have become people’s be all end all in life: we’ve misplaced our meaning, but can we recover it?
I spoke with author and teacher Karen Swallows Prior about the need for beauty and imagination in the Christian mind in order to fulfill our mandate of making the world a better place.
If these questions and themes interest you, I hope you’ll consider joining us and hundreds of people across the world as we discuss them together.
Even if you’re not a person of faith, or even a Christian, I hope you’ll stay curious about how a large portion of America’s—and our globe’s—population think about how their faith informs their public engagement with others across difference.
We’ll be giving away dozens of books from the speakers at the summit.
You’re also welcome to register and then enjoy the entire conference at a later date.
I hope to see you there!
A giveaway: The Everyday Patriot!
I’m giving away FIVE copies of my friend Tom Morris’ new book, The Everyday Patriot: How to be a Great American Now.
In all of his work, Tom deploys The Great Conversation—the iterative dialogue between people across time and place about big questions in life such as origin, purpose and destiny—to help us think more clearly about our present.
This book is no exception as he revives ancient wisdom to help us think of our duties to our county and one another today.
Write to me at ah@alexandraohudson.com to win.
